For us in Michigan, it’s almost time for the ‘real’ spring. By this time, you’ve had enough of miserable cold, gray skies, and are probably itching to get outside. Spring not only gives us a chance to press restart but it also kind of seems to gift us with a second chance at tackling our dusty New Year’s resolutions. And whether you’re a fan of “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up,” or the proponent of “The Joy of Leaving Your Sh*it All Over The Place,” we all could do with little revitalizing of our spaces.

We’ve compiled these simple yet powerful tips on refreshing your space for spring and invigorating your spirit so you can welcome this new season with open arms.

Clean & De-clutter

The spring cleaning is more than just tidying-up. According to studies cleaning and de-cluttering is a proven way to reduce stress. However, you will need 20 minutes of activity to get the full de-stress effects. So, arm yourself with your favorite lemon scent, start dusting, cleaning the front porch, cleaning the deck, and getting the patio furniture from the storage. Then, you can strip the linens and change the bedding from fuzzy and warm into light and breezy. It’s also a good time to go through your closets and donate, toss or recycle items that are worn out, and put away all the winter stuff away.

re-decorate

Now that you’ve cleaned and organized your home and put away all the heavy dark accessories and winter fabrics, go ahead and bring back those bright colored pillows, colorful patterned throws, and light accessories. If you’re up for even more decorating, you can even change the lamp shades, slipcovers, buy a new area rug, or even re-paint a room a lighter color. Benjamin Moore Paints have quite a list of subdued, glorious swatches and have come out with new swatch of color trends for 2019.

Lighten-up

Spring means blue skies, fresh air, and sunshine. And what better way to fully enjoy this but to let the sun in. Windows are most important yet often overlooked places when it comes to decorating. The spring is no time for heavy drapery. Take time to clean your windows, ditch the heavy drapes and opt for some light, sheer fabric on your windows.

go green

Spring is about fresh air, blooming flowers and new beginnings. Bring the outdoors in. Store all your wintery candles and swap them out with some new floral and fresh spring scents. Candles with citrus, gardenia and cedar, or high-quality diffusers will do the trick. Plants are also double agents and they work wonderfully as both eye-candy as well as detoxifying air in your home. Opt for flowers in bright energetic tones like bright green or yellow to lift your spirits and increase your creativity. Big or small, it’s your choice – but we’ve found an exhaustive and very educational list of indoor plants that have a big chance of becoming a showstopper in your home.

We hope you’re inspired, energized, and ready to welcome the new season. And as always, we’d love to see what you do with your little slice of heaven, so please share some photos with us on Instagram.
